Fantastic Films is a film production company with a focus on high quality genre and niche films. The directors of the company, Brendan McCarthy and John Mc Donnell have a combined experience of over 40 years in film .
Fantastic Films first production was the award winning short film The Making of a Prodigy (Colm McCarthy 2002). Since then it has consistently developed a wide range of feature and short film productions. The company’s first feature film was Song for a Raggy Boy (Aisling Walsh 2003) which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival and went on to win numerous awards worldwide.
Fantastic Films shot its second feature Timbuktu (Alan Gilsenan 2004) in Ireland and Morocco starring Eva Birthistle and Karl Geary. Fantastic Films produced 48 Angels (Marion Comer 2006) which featured Shane Brolly and Ciaran Flynn, now starring in Ridley Scotts “Nottingham”.
Fantastic Films is currently in production with two innovative horror feature films originated and developed by the company .
The Wake Wood -directed David Keating starring Aidan Gillen , Eva Birthistle and Timothy Spall. The film was written by Brendan McCarthy and is produced in partnership with legendary horror film company Hammer Films with the participation of the Irish Film Board . The film is now in post production.
Outcast -directed by Colm McCarthy starring James Nesbitt and Kate Dickie . The film will be released by Vertigo Films UK and sold internationally by Bankside. Outcast is written by Colm and Tom McCarthy and is made with the participation of the Irish Film Board. Outcast is currently in production.
Fantastic Films has consistently produced award winning short films such as Burning the Bed (Denis McArdle 2003) , Close (Tom Hopkins 2004), Aroma (Damon Silvester 2004), Invisible State (Aisling Walsh 2004) , the landmark CGI short film Prey Alone ( Saint and Mather 2005) and the 2006 BAFTA nominated and OSCAR™ winning short film Six Shooter (Martin Mc Donagh).
